STREAM FISHING | Shizuoka
Kawane
The Southern Alps tower 3,000 meters above sea level. The Oi River emanates from these jagged peaks and flows 168 km before pouring into Suruga Bay. Located in the middle and upper reaches of the river is the charming town of Kawane. We go from forest roads to the gorge to find the breathtakingly beautiful source, reached by descending a steep, almost cliff-like slope. Gallantly casting fishing rods as we clamber upstream, we target beautiful Amago (Red Spotted Trout) and Iwana (White Spotted Char.) Camping within earshot of the peacefully babbling stream, we enjoyed all that nature has to offer from dawn until dusk.
