The Katsuo Trail is a 210-kilometer loop trail designed for hikers, cyclists, and runners. Beginning on the Pacific coast in Yaizu, it travels inland through Shizuoka City, Fujieda, and Shimada, before reaching the forested mountain village of Kawanehon at the southern edge of the Southern Alps. With 6,300 meters of elevation gain, it offers a challenging but rewarding journey from sea to summit.
The route crosses a living landscape shaped by fishing culture, mountain traditions, and the climate and customs of the Ōigawa River basin. Rooted in the philosophy of Trail Learning—the belief that “to walk is to learn”—the Katsuo Trail encourages travelers to engage their senses, observe with each step, and build a deeper relationship with the land.
