Papersky’s Tour de Nippon project is about finding the magic of Japan’s rural districts, their inhabitants, nature, culture and food. We travel to various prefectures and ride bicycles. Traveling via bicycle allows us a clean and healthy way to explore Japan’s rural areas.

Hokuto City in Yamanashi Prefecture is surrounded by the Yatsugatake Mountains, the Southern Alps, and other splendid mountains. The crystal-clear water veins fed by the mountains flow all around, lending a tranquil vitality to the land. Unsurprising then, that this lush nature draws in hordes of outdoor lovers. The sensibilities of these individuals inter-mingle, making the town as diverse as the forests around it. Excited to glimpse all kinds of wholesome lifestyles of the folk who live here, we’re off in search of the peaks, people, water and essence of Hokuto.
