A Journey Along the Modern Tokaido 57 Stations — From Korai Bridge to Hirakata and Fushimi

When people hear “The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido,” they may picture the historic road that connected Edo and Kyoto. But the route did not end there. Four additional post towns between Fushimi and Korai Bridge in Osaka formed what was known as the Tokaido 57 Stations.

This time, Tour de Nippon takes this historic route as its theme, connecting Osaka and Kyoto by bicycle in a journey that looks to the past to discover something new in the present.

On Day 1, we set off from Nakanoshima in central Osaka and ride to Korai Bridge, the starting point of the Tokaido 57 Stations. Following waterways through Osaka, the “city of water,” we discover beautifully renewed waterfront spaces, design, furniture, and delicious local treats along the way. From the former Moriguchi post town, we follow the historic Bunroku Embankment and ride along the riverside toward the old Hirakata-juku, where traces of its former post-town character still remain.

On Day 2, we begin in Hirakata with coffee and a look at vintage objects, then enjoy a refreshing ride along the embankments, feeling the breeze as we head toward Fushimi. There, we board a Jikkokubune boat and follow the memories of this historic town, once a major center of river transportation and sake brewing. Join us for two days of cycling through changing landscapes as we travel from Osaka toward Kyoto.

● Start the morning with coffee at DERMATOGRAPH, surrounded by vintage objects and carved wooden bears (DAY 2)
● Cruise along the Fushimi waterways by Jikkokubune boat and explore its atmospheric sake brewery district and historic sites (DAY 2)

Participation fee: ¥19,000
¥17,000 for residents of Osaka or Kyoto
Bicycle rental is included.

The participation fee includes:
Cycling guide fee, walking guide fee, meals (lunch and afternoon snack), refreshments, support vehicle (luggage transportation available), commemorative tour item, and insurance.

Cycling distance: 40 km

Participation fee:¥12,000
¥10,000 for residents of Osaka or Kyoto
Bicycle rental is included.

The participation fee includes:
Cycling guide fee, Jikkokubune boat fare, Teradaya Museum admission, lunch, refreshments, support vehicle (luggage transportation available), commemorative tour item, and insurance.

【Remarks】

★ Accommodation is not included in the participation fee.
★ A discount is available for participants joining both days.
★ If you would like to participate with your own bicycle, please let us know when applying.
★ Transportation costs between your home and the meeting/finish points are not included.
★ Your registration will be confirmed once payment of the participation fee has been received
★ If you own a cycling helmet, please bring it with you. Helmets are also available to rent free of charge.
★ For accommodation on Saturday, October 3, we can recommend hotels and other accommodations around Hirakata Station and Kuzuha Station. Please contact us when applying.
