Papersky’s Tour de Nippon project is about finding the magic of Japan’s rural districts, their inhabitants, nature, culture and food. We travel to various prefectures and ride bicycles. Traveling via bicycle allows us a clean and healthy way to explore Japan’s rural areas.
This one-night, two-day sojourn to Itoigawa in Niigata is a great way to soak up nature, history and culture under your own steam. On Day 1, walk along the “Salt Road” that runs along Japan’s east-west seismic divide, and enjoy a dinner featuring the finest delights from the mountains and sea in a valley famous for “Nechi Otokoyama” sake. After discovering how people lived in Itoigawa during the Jomon period at the pit-house remains, it’s time to jump on a bike.
Cruise along the coastline following an abandoned railway line, while taking in the people, fishing ports and beautiful valleys, and you’ll come to a station 40 meters underground. Why not take a trip to Itoigawa – where a wealth of precious gems and encounters await.
The registration for “Papersky’s Tour de Nippon in Niigata / Itoigawa” will be open in May, 2022.
