In his stomping ground of Iwate, Kenji Miyazawa envisioned a world in which nature and man coexist in harmony; 100 years have elapsed since he was putting this vision into practice. The agricultural way of life that rooted him in the solid earth, coupled with his imaginary world capable of transcending dimensions at will, has many parallels with the new way of life and vision of the future that has emerged on a global scale since the pandemic. In this issue, we showcase a journey through the life and culture of Iwate, to encounter its people and to travel back and forth between Kenji’s world and the present.
Our guests for the trip are Izumi Shiokawa, illustrator and lover of Kenji’s literature, and musician Kojima Keitany Love. We set off on a fantastical and authentic journey through Ihatov with two people who express their own inner worlds through words, sounds and illustrations.
