Shiga Prefecture (滋賀県, Shiga-ken) is home to Japan’s largest lake, Lake Biwa and 37% of the total land area is designated as Natural Parks. Its boarders rub elbows with Kyoto making it a wonderous cultural and natural location. Many of Japan’s Old Japanese Highway’s (Old Tokaido Road, Nakasendo Route, Saba Kaido and the Old Hokuriku Kaido) pass through its territory.
