泳いで旅するバルセロナ！｜Editor’s Note #42

バルセロナは世界でもっとも多くの観光客が訪れる観光都市のひとつ。サグラダ・ファミリアに、とびきりおいしいパエリア。4人の伝説的な芸術家、ガウディ、ピカソ、ミロ、ダリを生みだした街でもあり、サッカーチーム、F C バルセロナの本拠地でもある。つまり観光客が押し寄せないはずがない街だ。しかし見どころ満載であるがゆえに、バルセロナという街のリアルな姿に出会うのは、容易なことではない。リアルなバルセロナを知りたいなら、水のなかに深く潜ってクールダウンしてみるといい。本当のバルセロナは、「泳ぐ」ことで見えてくるからだ。
今回のPAPERSKYでは、こうしたバルセロナに根づく、スイムカルチャーを紹介する。一歩、街に出てみれば、スイムカルチャーなしではバルセロナを語れないことに気づくだろう。ショーウィンドウを覗けば、3軒に1軒は水着がディスプレイされているほど、スイミングはバルセロナの人々にとって身近な存在なのだ。
カタルーニャでは、昼下がりの時間をシエスタやバムート（ベルモット）でくつろぐ習慣がある。それに加え、「泳ぐ」こともまた、カタルーニャの人々のリラックス方法のひとつ。公共のプールや会員制のプールが数多く存在し、いまから100 年も前から続くスイミングクラブもある。つまりバルセロナの人々は「泳ぐ」ことが大好きなのだ。ゆえにここ10 年の間に2 度も、世界水泳の開催地としても選ばれている。
そんなバルセロナを代表するプールといえば、市街を一望できる「Piscina Municipal de Montjuic 」だろう。すばらしい立地に建つこのプールも、たった数ユーロ支払えば、誰でも泳ぐことができるというから驚きだ。荘厳なバルセロナの街を眺めながら、世界一美しいプールで泳ぐぜいたく。これもまた、バルセロナでしか味わえない。
さらに週末、都会の喧噪を離れて、のんびり過ごしたいと思えば、バルセロナから北上し、コスタブラバへと足を延ばしてみるといい。透明度が高く、風光明媚なビーチとして知られるコスタブラバの海のなかへ、ダイブしてみてほしい。さあ、次の旅を計画中なら、世界でもっとも「泳ぐ」ことが楽しい街、バルセロナへ、旅することをおすすめする。
Wet & Hot, Gamba Barcelona!
Barcelona is one of the world’s most visited cities. Yet, beyond the beautiful Sagrada Familia, and perfectly delicious Paella- there is little known about the city. Of course it was home to four of arts greatest legends: Gaudi, Picasso, Miro and Dalhi. And is the current home to soccer’s greatest legend, FC Barcelona. But you’ll be hard pressed to escape the past of the city as well as it’s many clichés. To find a fresh Barcelona you’ll need to dive deep and cool down in the water! You’ll need to ‘Go Swim’!

Catalonian’s love to chill out from ‘Siestas’ to afternoon ‘Vermouths’. And one of their favorite ways to relax is to go for a swim at one of many swim clubs- some private with waiting lists for years and others public and stacked with histories dating back hundreds of years. In fact, Barcelonian’s love swimming so much they have hosted two FINA Swimming World Championships twice in less then 10 years.
For true sightseers the best pool in town is no doubt the Piscina Municipal de Montjuic- where for just a few coins you can take a dip in one of the most beautiful pools in the world while taking in a majestic skyline view of Barcelona’s city scape. And for those who like to leave the city for the weekend and enjoy a more rural and natural experience- there is Costa Brava. A long stretch of the Medaterian Sea that is home to some of the most beautiful water, diving, beaches and fishes in the world. So make your next trip a ‘Swim Trip’ to the city that does it better then any other in the world- Barcelona.
